The United States immigration laws might get a huge overhaul, that is, if President Donald Trump has his way. Trump proposed the US move to a merit-based immigration system in his speech before Congress Tuesday night. Merit-based systems generally give priority to immigrants based on things like skills, education and financial means. Critics say the us depends on low-skill immigrants to fill jobs like farm and kitchen work. The current US immigration system gives the majority of visas to immigrants on the basis that they already have family in the United States.
