Roughly 33 residents are added to the Des Moines Area each day in the past year which makes it the fastest growing city in the Midwest according to new Census Bureau Data. The metro area’s population increased by 2 percent in the 12-month period that ended in July of 2016. That outpaced every city in the Midwest and was only passed by cities in the South and Pacific coast. During the past year the Des Moines area added more than 12,000 residents which brought the overall population to be about 630,000. The Des Moines Metropolitan area includes Polk, Dallas, Warren, Madison and Guthrie counties. Des Moines was tied as the 34th fastest growing metro area nationwide.
