Five hundred pro-life advocates in Iowa made their voices heard at a rally at the Iowa Statehouse today. The “Rally for Life” was a celebration of potentially passing a state law that would ban abortions in Iowa at twenty weeks gestation. Rally attendees threw baby shoes into a crib on the rotunda of the ground floor to symbolize the unborn. The event lasted two hours and governor Terry Brandstad and other Iowa legislators spoke to the crowd expressing their support of bills restricting abortion. Some people, however, are still disappointed that a bill forbidding abortions at the first sign of a heartbeat, or six weeks gestation, is not going forward in the statehouse. Had it been passed, this would’ve been the most restrictive abortion bill in the country.
