Iowa State Assistant Professor Sues University

Former Iowa State assistant professor, Laura Smarandescu, is now suing the university. According to the Ames Tribune, Smarandescu, formerly a professor of marketing in the college of business, came to Iowa State in 2007, and alleges that the university denied her a promotion to associate professor in 2014 because of her gender. The lawsuit, filed in the Story County District court, states that she suffered from unlawful employment discrimination and that those involved committed wrongful acts that damaged her reputation, impairing her future employment opportunities. Iowa State spokesman John McCarroll says Iowa State is aware of the lawsuit but chose not to comment.
