Israel’s security cabinet authorized a settlement today in the West Bank Palestinian territory near the city of Ramallah. This settlement will be the first one approved by Israel in over two decades. The international community has deemed Israeli settlements in Palestine a violation of the Geneva Conventions of 1947, but Israel maintains the opposite and that it is lawful. Jewish settlements in Palestinian lands make a two-state solution proposed by the international community unable to exist. The conflict between Israel and many Arab nations in the Middle East, relating to Israeli occupation of Palestine has been ongoing since the 1940’s. Many Arab leaders also highlighted the importance of solving this dispute yesterday during the 28th annual summit of the Arab league.
